Game Dev for Kids: Code, Create & Play! (Ages 9–14)
Course Description
Unlock your child’s creativity with Game Dev for Kids a hands-on, screen-positive introduction to real programming through the magic of game design! In this engaging course, young learners build their own interactive games while learning foundational coding skills using Scratch, a visual programming language developed by the MIT Media Lab specifically for kids and beginners.
Why Scratch?
Scratch uses colorful, drag-and-drop code blocks instead of complex text-based syntax making it perfect for ages 9–14. Instead of typing lines of code, students snap together intuitive blocks like puzzle pieces to control characters, add sound effects, create animations, and respond to player input. This approach teaches core programming concepts such as loops, conditionals, variables, and events in a playful, frustration-free way. Plus, Scratch runs right in a web browser, so no software installation is needed!
What Kids Will Build:
- A maze adventure game with collectibles and enemies
- A space shooter with scoring and power-ups
- A custom platformer with gravity and jumping mechanics
- Their very own original game idea brought to life!
By the end of the course, students won’t just be playing games they’ll understand how they work, share their creations with a global community, and gain confidence to explore more advanced coding later on.
Perfect for first-time coders who love Roblox, Minecraft, or mobile games and want to become creators, not just players!
All you need is a laptop or tablet and a curious mind!
